Oesterle Library is thankful for this opportunity to raise funds to build our Textbook Collection. This past fall, the newly renovated North Central College Learning Commons & Oesterle Library facilities opened - and the students love it! With the many Learning Commons services bringing so many students to the building, we are working hard to meet the needs of the students in as many areas as possible.
Textbooks are a major source of financial strain for students. Studies have shown that students who own or have textbooks perform better in class and have higher rates of retention. If students receive assistance with textbook access or purchasing, studies have shown they use the extra money for needed expenses like food, medical bills, and transportation home. This is an area of need where Oesterle Library is perfectly situated to help!
Through the donations collected by the Friends of the Oesterle Library fund, we will create a Textbook Collection that covers as many general education classes and high-cost textbooks as possible.
How many textbooks will your gift buy? Here are a few examples:
$20 will buy 1 award-winning children’s book for the Tyson Curriculum Collection
$30 will buy 1 English, History, Philosophy, or Political Science required book
$60 will buy 1 Communication, Art & Design, Business, or Education required book
$120+ will buy 1 Math, Chemistry, Biology, Neuroscience, or Health Sciences required book
The books in the new collection will be available to all students on campus and useable within the library for 2-hour increments. These specifications are to ensure access for as many students as possible.
The much-needed collection has the potential to reach across campus and into every discipline to serve our most vulnerable students.
